Neighborhood Improvements

Since becoming the 12th District Alderman, José Pérez has helped improve the neighborhood through his work in creating tax incremental financing districts on 5th and 6th Streets to reinvest tax dollars into the area. This will add landscaping to help beautify the streets, make the sidewalks wider and more walkable for pedestrians and add bike lanes for cyclists.

Bublr Bikes has added two new bike stations in District 12 located at 6th & Virginia and 2nd & Freshwater. Bublr Bikes provides affordable, convenient service and gives residents another option for transportation besides driving, taking the bus, or walking.  This also strengthens our ties to downtown and other parts of the city. Alderman Pérez is working on adding additional stations to the district as their business and network grows including 9th & Washington at Walker Square Park and at the 16th Street Community Health Center.

Alderman Pérez takes part in annual KK River cleanups and helps the homeless through his participation in the Continuum of Care as well as participating in neighborhood walks. Coordinating with Mayor Barrett’s Strong Neighborhoods Plan, the Alderman helped organize the 5th Place cleanup effort.  He also supported and voted for the successful addition of 120 new positions in the Milwaukee Police Department to help fight crime in our city. His work with the Local Business Action Team has also helped prevent predatory towing.
